Twitter es una de las redes sociales de mayor éxito en la actualidad. Desde su surgimiento ha captado a miles y miles de usuarios que se han visto cautivados por su red de microblogging que permite comentar en tiempo real situaciones que le suceden a cada usuario. Pero el crecimiento en la cantidad de usuarios también se ha convertido en el foco de atención de varios programadores malintencionados que utilizan las redes sociales como vehículos de malwares y virus. Para prevenir los disgustos que traen los bichos informáticos ha salido SecureTwitter, una aplicación útil en la lucha contra quienes intentan abusar de la confianza de los usuarios de la red social del pajarito.
Se trata de una herramienta que advierte a los usuarios de Twitter acerca de la fiabilidad de los links que otros postean a través del servicio de microblogging de la red. Dada la limitación de 140 caracteres en los mensajes que se difunden en Twitter muchos links que son enviados a través de estos mensajes son TinyURL, es decir “abreviaciones” de direcciones en la web que pueden esconder la verdadera ubicación a la que se redirecciona un usuario al hacer click.
SecureTwitter escanea el link que llega mediante un post en la red y advierte al usuario calificando al sitio de confiable (luz verde) o maligno (con una X roja), aunque cabe también la posibilidad de que no pueda escanear el sitio y arroje como resultado un signo de interrogación.
